Stinging incision

Hi all! I had peroneal tendon surgery with groove deepening on 6/26/17. I am now just over 6 wks post op. I am 25% weight bearing in cam walker boot with crutches. I have had the burning and pins and needles on side and under foot off and on since surgery. That actually has started to fade away now. I started partial weight bearing last wk. Right around the same time, though honestly I'm not sure if it was before or after, I stated having intense stinging in the incision area. It's not the same burning or pins and needles as the nerve damage from surgery. It actually kinda feels like alcohol or salt on a cut. Just a sharp sting. It only last a few seconds at a time. Has anyone had this? My pt assistant said she thinks it's just the incision finishing healing. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this and was it the healing? How long did it last before it stopped happening?

Hi Vanessa yes I get this stinging too. And agree it's just like salt being put on a wound. Ooooch... Started on the inside of my ankle where the smallest wound is, really quite painful. Couldn't understand why it's started as I'm 17weeks in. And everything healed well. But now getting it on the lrg wound on the outside of my ankle? Haven't been able to find any information on it. So don't know why it should start at the stage? Let's hope it calms down before too long.

I go back to my surgeon on Monday and will be asking him. If I get an explanation I will let you know.

Will look forward to getting answers. Thanks sx

I saw my Dr on Monday and asked him about the stinging. He said it was completely normal. The skin is very thin and there is very little muscle or anything in that area and that causes it the nerves to be more sensitive. He told me to use maderma on the scar and over time it would settle down. I hope this helps some.

thanks for the answers.  we learn every day  lol  been for my physio today, she is happy with everything except the fact that I'm still limping, But thinks its down to my knee problem which caused the fall in the first place. Not happy that I now have to go the a operation on my knee after all this, but she told me no where near as bad as what Ive been through with the ankle surgery. It will be my decision in the end if i go through with it, but has warned me that it will only get worse as time goes on and will always have the limp. sad just the thought of more surgery on the same leg puts the fear of God in me...................sad   Hope your news was good at your appointment?  sx

My appointment went well. He said everything looks good, all the pains I have are exactly what he expects at this point. The pain I have in the ankle bone and just infront of it he said will slowly faid over the next year. He increased my weight bearing to 70 pounds which is still a very long way from my full weight. He said I should be full weight bearing within a month but still in boot. Then about another month to get into regular shoe. Another 2 months out of work. My job is not happy.

Had pt yesterday and was finally able to get the baps board to touch the floor in all directions so thats improvement! The band I feel across the front of my ankle seems to be loosening some finally. Thank goodness. They put me on something like a bike but you push out with your legs. I don't know exercise equipment names lol. That was the new exercise this week.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee. I know it must be hard to even think about another surgery at this point. I pray everything goes well and you have a quick recovery if you decide to have it.

Great news all round for you then. I cant manage the board too well as my ankle is still quite stiff for the forward and backward motion. But this is because of the tightness due to swelling, as this is the worst place for mine , looks and feels very tight all the time. I can JUST put on my flat shoes, but find them very uncomfortable and hard, so still in lacy dappers when walking for a while, but can wear sandals that tie around my ankle as long as im not walking too far because they dont really give much support.  At my appt today she just had me walking up n down th gym so she could see how i was walking.  But because of the limp this is why she is referring me to my knee specialist. Trust me to be getting through one thing then have another to go through.  sad  sx
