Has anyone had this injection very recently and, if so, would love some feedback? I am on the brink of organising an injection for myself, probably privately, can anyone recommend?
Hi
I had it in both knees in 2012 and it made no difference to my pain and discomfort, to be quite honest. When I finally had an arthroscopy a few months later, it showed that I needed full knee replacements. A bit of a shock at 52, but it explained why I had so much pain!
I believe at the time that the injections it cost £350 per knee and my insurance company said that they would only pay for it once, because they said that it wasn't a cure.
Is your consultant recommending it...have you had x-Rays and an MRI?
Patsy
2 x TKR
I had 3 injections of Ortho-Visc Gel in January of this year and for me personally they didn't relieve and pain or help my knee, I still had to have a TKR.
Hi. I had two injection with a gel - can't remember the name but £300 privately. The first one didn't particularly help with the pain but it certainly gave me more movement in the knee which lasted a few months. The second one did nothing at all though and the same person did both. In the end it was just another way of delaying the TKR which I've just had.
Yes iv had injections done under x ray 1st one's lasted about 3
months not totally pain free but cut my medication down by half
2nd one's only few weeks . Had tkr 10 weeks ago right knee
still need left doing
back at pain clinic next week see what they come up with
I had the synvisc injection with no result at all. Just the cost of $450!
Thanks Patsy. My Consultant doesn't recommend them, says they been hyped up and there is no proven evidence of success. He is more in favour of a steroid injection which he knows works. I am managing at the moment with just medication and Flexiseq, whihc I rub in to the knee, I actualy don;t think I am in too bad a state, even though I have pain, as I can walk 5-6 miles everyweekend but I am thinking ahead to the future.

Thanks Patty for your input, my consultant doesn't rate their success rate but it has helped me make a judgement.

My consultant doesn't rate these injections and you have sort of confirmed it - thanks for your input. I think I am a way off a right TKR yet but it is good to get some feedback on these injections. so far, they are not coming out on top.
thanks.
Moses
Thanks Sandra, these injections are not proving a great success judging by the feedback I've had so far. I didn't want to go down the steroid route as there is a limit to how many injections you can have and they do compromise the joints,

I had the injections early this year. Sorry to say they did nothing for me. However everyone's different. I had a tkr 5 weeks ago and am doing very well. It's not easy but I feel it was worth it.
Thanks Peter. I am some way o ff having a TKR but am experiencing pain in the interim. My Consultant is not impressed with these injections so I was checking people out to see what their reaction is and, in the main, it is not very positive. I have been told to put off as long as possible the TKR, guess you have to be in unbearable pain before you succumb. Thanks for your input.

If you can still walk that far, I would wait. I live in Australia & was on a waiting list for 2 years & could only manage to do the necessary shopping & house cleaning a little at a time. I so missed my beach & forest walking in that time. Am now nearly 12 weeks PO bilateral TKR & am so enjoying being able to walk pain free. You will know when the time is right.
I was same as you needed my knee's replaced but surgeon but it off 2 years because of my age . i had loads of treatment over
last 3 years. had my tkr 10 weeks ago . so im hoping to get my
life back
Thanks Sandra, I think that is good advice, it is exactly what my surgeon said to me, it was just that in the meantime if I could rid myself of the pain, although, not chronic, the Snyvisc injections would be a good interim treatment. On what I have heard, I now think not, they do not appear to be that successful.
