Tender scar

After reading the replies here I think I will start to massage with oil or moisturiser. It can't hurt can it. I was so cross with myself when I pulled mine, it actually felt at the time like I'd opened it up sad ah well it's only cosmetic and as long as my hip is working I'm happy

hi hazel and derek  ...

good to see you here !!!!

I am almost 9 months post-op from 1st THR and 14 weeks from 2nd THR -

funny how I can still feel them - like zippers on each side - sometimes it feel little pricks, itch and some soreness - I do not like touching them ... weird huh?

so I massage around them in circular motion ...

You sound wonderful !!!!

big warm hug to both

Ahh. I had internal dissolvable stitches. They certainly give a great scar but maybe also a little sensitivity as the stitches do their thing.

And I agree with the pain, once I get going it's just not there. But as soon as I stand up o can't move

Similar to before the op but obviously much less pain.

Funnily enough I find that massaging the scar when it's sensitive actually decreases the sensitivity. I don't know why. But when it's annoying me I give it a good vigorous rub. I use a net flannel in the shower and sometimes scratch it woth that. It relieves the sensitivity somehow.

It's like I'm saying to the scar 'You think that's sensitive. I'll show you sensitive.' And the scar says - ok ok. I give up'!

Like your attitude - I must try saying that to my scar twisted

Yep - stand, and limp for 2-3 paces, then ok.

I just did a 3.5 mile country walk - all fine, except when I got up off the bar stool at the village pub after a small but very refreshing glass of 'black stuff'.

I liked this advert ...

Thanks Kikeena, that's a new one on me, I will let you know if it works biggrin

Thanks Renee, we are both fine. The only thing Derek can't do that he did before is put his right sock on; that's because I won't let him put his right knee on top of his left knee as I am afraid it may do some damage to the hip. Will try the massage to see if that helps the tenderness, he has been reluctant to do this as he thinks it would only help to make the scar fainter and he isn't bothered about that.

I keep up with how you are all doing, as I think the forum is great. Hazel

You are right to stop him putting one knee on top of the other - see the BoneSmart website for 'Dislocation Risks'.

Hi Miele

I too am a little over weight, but have lost some since the op.

Unfortunately it hardly has stopped raining in the North West of the UK for the past few weeks; before that we went for a walk every day. Maybe I will have to be brave and get wet if it will help the tenderness in the scar area. Good luck in your recovery.
