Still Red?

Hi Everyone

I really haven't been on here for a while, but i have a query i thought you might be able to help me with.

I had my THR 4 months ago, my scar is sill quite red, and feels slightly bruised to touch. It's not causing me any problems i am just not sure if this is normal? The surrounding area isnt red, it is just the line of the scar.

Thank you in advance for ay advice.

Hi Laura

I am 6 months post op and my scar was doing the same thing as yours but is beginning to fade now . The top part is nice and flat and a light pinky colour but the bottom section is more red and bumpy and more tender .My physio said it was just where the bottom section of scar had more stretching when moving and my skin just wanted to be red ! Just keep on with the gentle massage morning and nightime and it will eventually de- sensitise itself . If it becomes more painful then get your doc to give it the once over .

All the best

Hilary

If no fever at sight drainning which would indicate infection. No swelling or server pain at touch. Let it do what it does. Heal

Mine is about the same L4ura85. I can sleep on it (about 1-2 hours at a time) but it sensitive when rolling over on it, and to fabrics at times. But I can now massage it slowly and evenly with oil without too much grief.

Hope this helps.

No problem in this I had hip joint replacement 15 months back I still have going slowly slowly.as long as it is not giving any problem it is ok

Hi Laura

I an 5 months post op for one and 7 for other. My scars are still very tendor to touch both of them. They are not red or inflamed in any way but l still find myself protcting them incase they get touched as they still feel very tendor and sore at times. Sometimmes they just feel really sore without being touched but my doctor says it can take a year. For them to heal inside correctky.

Hope this helps.

Six and a half weeks post op and my scar is red and I can still see where the dressing was even though that came off after a week. Bio oil is so lovely, but the area is definitely very tender and still can't lie on it. - I guess the healing process is much longer than we think it is. X

Hi I'm nearly 4 months, my scar is various colours mainly white, but where I had a little weeping bottom and mid scar it is pink........ I guess I've been lucky lovely straight line, and gradually disappearing, top can be a bit sensative at times but otherwise area is still numb.  I have done loads of massaging with oil and the ridge has gone.  TBH I'm not bothered by the scar - realise everyone is different -  I know some people have tenderness for a while.

Hi Suzie,

I know what you mean, everyone is different, but I'm not bothered about my scar either! I do have some from previous surgery when I was tiny so because I have always had them (for as long as I can remember anyway!!) this new one is just another scar, I just never really asked about a timescale of the slight tenderness and redness so it's nice to hear everyone's experience! I couldn't have asked for a neater one though I must say!!

On another note, how are you doing being a similar time post op? Xx

I am using bio oil too, it is so nice to put on, not sticky at all!! We get told it takes time, but no one can give you an answer, just that everyone is different! I think after about 6 weeks you could see where my dressing had been because all my skin on my leg was so dry!!

Xx

Hi Laura,

This does help! I find myself being very aware of what is around me / my hip! Because I can be quite clumsy, I used to often be knocking into desk or table corners! I haven't done that for a while now!!

I suppose when you are feeling practically back to normal, you expect it to just disappear! But it is still just a bit niggly at times!

Thank you x

No problems luckily, thank you! Xx

Hi linda,

Thank you for your reply, I do sleep on this side without any pain, part of it is still numb though, it feels weird when I massage oil into it because one side of the scar is ok although that's when it feels bruised, but an inch from the other side is still numb!

Xx Laura

To be honest our bodies are such clever things, I do just need to let it do its thing!

Thank you xx

Thank you Hilary,

I can't complain about my scar at all to look at, I am really pleased and surprised how neat it is!! That's interesting about the skin stretching, I didn't even think of that.

Thank you again,

Laura xx

Hi Malloo -- I'm interested in what it looks like where your dressing was.  I had quite a rash from the dressing (removed 5 days ago) and it's still quite red.    Is yours a bit like a rash?   Thanks for any info -- Leslie
