The long wait might be over

Happy Easter! I posted a month or so ago about my long wait for hip replacement..surgeon retired, 4 months for appointment with new surgeon unable to meet the timescales given in the letters twice, then told his list was actually a year. I am in so much pain and rarely leave the house, being fortunate I work from home helps, i went to GP to see if he could suggest or swing anything in my favour..he suggested I contact MSP. I did and lo and behold I have appointent with a new surgeon in Golden Jubilee Hospital in glasgow and a preoperative date 2 days after that. Both 1st week in May. No date for op, but feeling it might be soon as surely wouldnt do a preop a long time before op. Though given the previous debacle, I am optimistically hopefull it might be soon but until I get op date still not totally confident was january 2016 my original consultant said I needed to have it done..so a year and 4 months down the line things are very bad with other things all deteriorated more than should have, but I am seeing light ahead in the tunnell. Anyway apart from sharing do people agree it cant be long after preop as blood tests etc need be up to date?

Yes, I would think so ☺ good luck !

Thanks Lisa. On thenhospital websitenthey had an informative webise and says op scheduled soon after preop which I hadnt noticed til reread my info. But thanks for taking time to reply.

Hi Osprey1,

I'm so happy for you.  It won't be long now before you are well on your way to a full recovery.  Wishing you the very bestsmile

That's a dreadful wait. So I guess they missed their NHS target??? I guess it depends on hospital procedures, but my hospital said that they do pre-op no more than four weeks before; and a final blood test two days before. The latter was for matching blood in case there was a need for a transfusion. That one stunned me, as I thought your blood was your blood! But no, they told me that your blood changes slightly ask the time, and to get the best match they test within two days of the op. You learn something new all the time!!

Hers nipping your wait is over soon

Thank you Kimberley! I am obviously nervous but looking forward to it and getting back to life..at 55 life in the old girl yet I hope.

Hi Beth. Wow. I thought your blood was your blood as well. There you go. Yes, 12 weeks target well and truly missed, though Apparently as I had a named surgeon due to my original one who retired recomending me to new one means the waiting time doesnt apply. Thiugh I wish they had been honest in the first place instead of giving me a letter saying by end December, then another saying be by end of March. I am so please to just be getting it done soon. Nervous but cant go in as I am. Thanks for replying. I hope you are well yourself.

So happy to hear that you are making progress with you apointment schedules! I can't imagine the frustration you dealt with on top of the pain and reduced quality of life over the past few years.

I will hold you in prayer,

Kristen

Hi Osprey, that sounds like really good news. I'm sure you're right, the pre op should be quite close to the actual op. Wishing you all the best, you've been waiting far too long.

Hi ospery

i had my surgery at the golden jubilee on the 2nd February my pre op was 11th januarary.when had pre- op was told I shouldn't have to wait for op. I was originally going to get operation at larbert was told in December that it could approximately be about  3 months, but I phoned them up and said I would take cancellation and received a call asking if I would go to the golden jubilee was wondering if you said you are prepared to take a cancellation. By the way the staff at the jubilee were excellent good luck😀 Xx

Hi Badger

Thank you for reply! Good to have someone from same hospital. When I go for the preop. I will ask if I can go on a cancellation list. By time I get to preop appt that will be 7 months. Really struggling. My 85 year old mother in law jumped up to help me off the sofa the other night! So needing doing soon as possible. Good to hear you had a good experience. How is your recovery going? I hope you are really well.

Hi Renee

you are so kind. Thank you so much. X

Thank you Judith x

Hi Kirsten

I appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. I hope you are well yourself. X

Hi osprey

My understanding is that your operation is quite soon after pre -op. My recovery is going well. The pain you get afterward is nothing compared to what you are going through now. Although i am still getting some pain it is more in my other side which is apparently common as compensating for operaated side but is easing off. Overall though i am starting to feel the benefits of the surgery its just a case of being patient. Let us know how you get on good luck

Hi Badger

It sounds like you are progressing really well. A good time of year too to encourage you to get out and about and enjoy it without the bad pain preop and strenghten and continuing to improve. Glad to hear it all went well in the Golden Jubilee. I am glad actually to be going there as I have only heard good reports.

I have a date!! Friday the 2nd if e. Preop all done last Wednesday. Op will be posterior approach. I am nervous but glad to finally have a date. Badger maybe I will have your room in hospital ha.

hey osprey,
