Tomorrow!

Good luck!

Hi, Maggie. Hope all went well. How are you feeling? x

LOL that's so going to be me when the time comes :-) Hope it all went well and wishing you the best.

Hi Maggie, I hope your opp. went well and you are well, I'm going to the golden jubilee next month, I'm so not sure, everyone says go for it you will get your old life back, but then I read on here and from people I know that they regret itI'm not so sure, as of today I have given in and got a walker as I could no longer stand the pain trying to walk with a single stick, so now I have an emergancy appt. with a new surgeon tommorrow, cos my original surgeon is not availabe, I just feel like a number on a pc screen, done anyone else feel like this? good luck with your recovery Maggie, love Lynne.

Hi Lynne

I'm four weeks post op and doing great. Improving every day. It was soooooooo worth it. Hope you can hook up with a good surgeon and get to plan your future. Good luck for the appointment tomorrow. Judith x

Hi maggie,

I'm so glad things went well for you! that's great news, thank you for your good wishes, I will keep you posted,

love Lynne.

Hi again Maggie, I just wondered, did you have a spinal block , or did they put you out? and if you had a block did you hear the saw? this is what scares me, cos they want to give me the spinal block, and I don't want to hear the noises.

Hi Lynne

With my first op, I had spinal plus sedative and heard the hammering.

I had nightmares about it for months.

For my most recent THR - 15 days - the anaesthetist agreed to my request for total anaesthetic.

Elaine

Hi Lynne, I had a spinal block but said to the anaesthetist that I didn't want to be aware of anything. She must have used a fair bit of sedative as I was only vaguely aware of being moved about on a couple of occasions. No nightmares about it. I did listen to a relaxation cd on my iphone tho - so maybe that helped.

Hi Lynne

I had a spinal and a slight sedative with both THR's and didnt hear a thing

I would have a spinal about a GA anyday

Hi Eileen,

thanks for letting me know, I am kind of worried about hearing all the sawing etc.well I'm off to see the surgeon tommorrow at 9am, so I'l ask him all I need to know, I have a list! lol,

take care,

Lynne x

Hi Lynne

Good luck for today.......let us know how things go.

Never go to see a consultant without a list and always ask to be copied into their correspondence

Those are the 2 things I try to remember.

Well I'm off to see the surgeon in a couple of hours......armed with my list

Hi Eileen,

well Iv'e just got back from the hospital, and the new surgeon was very nice, so it seems he woud prefer to do one hip at a time as he feels the recovery for both would be too much, so we agreed, he specialises in the postier approach so thats what I will be having, I have to go back next week for my pre opp check, then he said he'd get me in asap, his success rate is great, he's performed over 300 opps, and his boss who will be with him has done thousands!after 6 months I can cross my legs if I want, he said the my bone quality was great, and that i'm still so young for a thr! lol anyway I'm now sitting down with a cup of tea, and going to watch loose women,

talk to you soon,

Lynne x

Glad to hear you have found a surgeon you can have confidence in and that he has made you feel OK about going ahead with the op. I'm sure having them done one at a time is better in the long run regarding recovery - that's what I did 20 years ago and at least you know what to expect the second time as well.  Hope the wait isn't too long.  All the best and let us know how you get on.

Hi Lynne

That sounds a really positive appointment

Glad you got a surgeon you can trust.

My appointment wasnt as good. Lovely surgeon but not such good news

He says the fracture will never heal so I'll be on crutches the rest of my life.....possibly one crutch eventually

He gave me a cortison injection and I have to see him in 6 weeks. If it works he'll give me another one. I've got to monitor the pain.

Hi Lynne, I had spinal block with some sedation, I also had my iPod and headphones with me. I was vaguely aware of being moved a bit but not much, although all the way through I was talking with the anaesthetist and her team and was perfectly coherent with them. I never heard any sawing or banging. I was aware of what felt like gentle tugs just below my back but there wasn't even any discomfort. It seemed to me to be over very quickly but I was in theatre for three hours !! It did not feel to me anything like that long and I can honestly say the experience was very positive. I liked the fact that there was someone at my end to speak with if you wanted to. I do remember saying to my surgeon please measure twice and cut once !! I could hear him laughing. First spinal for me but I must say I would never go back to a general, it was great, also directly afterwards you are able to talk to all the staff in recovery with no wooziness. I would recommend u take iPod or phone with music on plug in headphones and just relax, I couldn't believe that it really was that easy.

Hi Maggie

How are things with you now........7 days on.......Good I hope

Look forward to hearing from you when you feel up to it

Love

Eileen

Hi Maggie Good to hear from you and that you had a positive experience, in theatre.  Do hope you are making good progress!

Great to have you back Maggie and to know that you had such a positive experience!

Sounds like you'll go from strength to stregth. Keep us posted of your progress. I'm now 5 weeks post op and doing great. Out taking short walks in the field with the dog and hubby using two walking poles for stability. Still using one stick in the house as the book says not to throw away the stick until you can walk as well with it as without! Got my appointment to see the consultant at 7 weeks so cannot wait to get the go ahead to drive and sleep on my side! Hope your wound is healing well and that you're feeling great in yourself. Take care. Judith x

Hi Maggie

I must have missed this post sorry

So glad you had a positive experience in theatre

Keep going
