Upcoming Hysterectomy

I am 37. I have had heavy painful periods since I was young. After my 2 children(via c-sections) I had an IUD placed. I was due for a change and the dr was unable to remove it in the office. I had to go for day surgery...with the plan to reinsert it in the OR. The gyne was not able to reinsert it as my cervix was to tight. Therefore, I am not able for ablasion to stop my periods. My option is hysterectomy , leaving my ovaries. At first I was relieved, then I started looking at what to expect...now Im scared. Am I going to have an uncontrollable bladder afterwards? Am I going to never want sex? I really dont want to go tjrough periods again...as I never had them while on my IUD...but I am really worried and confused. Help!

Best thing that ever happened to me, having that hysterectomy, no more red weeks.

I did not get lucky enough to keep my ovaries, I had an early cancer, I'm very glad they caught it as soon as they did, but it sounds as though you will be OK.

As i'm getting older now 65, I am having to replace osteregon with suppositories, but no more and a couple of times a week, just to keep things down below healthy,  no problems with water works, still do pelvic exercises, as I had children naturally and if i get lazy I pay the price of weak bladder, that becomes a short sharp reminder to do my pelvic exercises, I think it must be a life long issue for women that have had children, weakened pelvic muscles.

Thanks for that.....keep the replies coming!!☺

Oh that sucks. I would get a 2nd Gynaecologist opinion. Did you go privately? You had such success with previous IUD that it is a huge sacrifice to opt to remove uterus! Did they give a reason for tight cervix? Was old  IUD removed? Were you under anaesthetic?

Hi Janie, why do you have heavy periods? Hsvd you been diagnosed with fibroids or endometriosis?

No reason for my cervix being tight and no diagnosis of fibroids or endometriosis. Its just always been that way. I get numb when my periods happen (mid thigh to belly button line) and I really dont want to get it back.

You need the same Doc that got it in place last time to do it again. If they got one in then, they should be able to get onein again surely.
