Very high heart rate

Hi, for about 2 years now I've noticed that I have a very high resting heart rate. It's usually between 80-110. I know very high!

I have been diagnosed with anxiety but my heart rate is this high even when I'm not anxious. I've seen 3 top heart specialists that I saw privately. They all say my heart is fine. I've had lots of tests. Ecgs, echos, 7 day monitor, blood tests. So I'm abit lost as to why my heart rate is so high. I'm only 19 and I'm healthy. Also I'd like to add that when I stand up my heart rate will sometimes be around 130 which is crazy high but again everyone has told me my heart is fine. I don't know though. I can't afford to see anymore heart specialists. Thank you for reading

Alice - I am guessing you use one of those heart rate monitors?

First and foremost the numbers you have mentioned are not high per se. They are on the higher side of the normal range but are hy no standards high.

These numvers could easily be explained by your anxiety and the high adrenaline associated with it.

Your heart is absolutely fine as has been told to you by several cardiologists and a clear ECG!

Now, for remediation just get rid of the heart rate monitor and start exercising. Your resting HR will come down as your heart becomes stronger with some cardio exercise (running, rowing, cycling and any sport for that matter). Do that for 6 months and you will see that your resting HR numbers will improve. Don’t stimulate your brain with the continuous input of your HR as that is a involuntary process and works best when left alone to the central nervous system.

Resting heart rate is 60 to 100 bmp. When you stand up or change positions or anything its normal for your hr to change or go higher. But as the other person on here said. Working out makes the heart stronger and will lower your resting hr. If you do use an oximeter and your always checking yor hr it will give you anxiety when you think you hr is high.

Your  heart rate is very common with anxiety. Even when you’re not feeling anxious. The main thing is that your heart is healthy and even at that high rate it will not hurt your heart. What is causing the heart rate is the adrenaline your brain sends out.   I have had that same heart rate for decades and my heart is very healthy. I still exercise regularly. Also make sure that you stay hydrated because dehydration can also cause an elevated heart rate. Stay away from caffeine, sugar, alcohol, cigarettes. Practice some mindful meditation for anxiety  that you can find on YouTube. It really helps calm me down. Another thing that really helps is the breathing meditation because if you have that under control, your heart rate will slow down a little. One is called  mindfulness breathing guided meditation 10 minutes. You’re going to be fine. It’s just a matter of gaining control over the anxiety. Counseling can help too 🌸🌸🌸🙂
