Wales-england

had a hip replacement in north wales in june when i lived there. They said my other hip needed doing. I now live in england. Which health autority will do my other hip. All the xrays etc have been done in north wales.

Hi Sandra

Since you've moved to England have you registered with a GP? If so go to him/her and ask for a referral to whichever hospital your county uses.

Wherabouts in England are you?

I'm in the North East.

Love

Eileen

Whichever authority you live in.  However, it would be worth doing your 1 year follow-up in your Welsh hospital so make sure they have your new address. I'm assuming you could make arrangements to go back if called. It would be worth asking around for the right hospital. If you've moved just over the border then I would think about Wrightington in Wigan. They specialise in joint replacements and have some very experienced surgeons.  Good luck.

I have registered with a gp in north manchester, where I now live. i  am keeping my follow up app in Wexham, where i had the op.My medical records have been 'in transit' for nearly a month. The new gp medical centre are very vague. Just keep saying keep my app at Wrexham, give them my new address etc and see what happens,. Neither health authority will give me physio but the old gp gave me a self referal to local hosp. They gave me exercises to do and I drove there from North Manchester for a couple of fortnightly checks.Complete lack of communication, don't know where I stand with all the hastle.

Get in touch with Healthwatch in your local area. This is the new body set up to oversee what's happening in the Clinical Commissioning Group. You can find out where they're based by Googling them in your area. PALS - the patient advocacy liaison service will operate from the hospital or local authority where you live. Either one of these bodies should be able to help you.

Try for Wrightington from N Manchester - everyone I know who's been there swears by it.  One bad effect of devolution is that the NHS has suffered from administrative chop up. If I go to visit my brother in England the medics down there can't easily get access to my computerised records in Scotland,  Good luck with the mix-up. If it is any consolation I haven't had any out of hospital physio after either of my joint replacements but I have some background and my rehab has gone well.

Good luck

Good luck with your hip replacement. Do not go to see a Mr Maxwell. At Oaklands Hodpital, Salford Manchester.  I went NH and I am now a cripple because of this man.  Just naming and shaming him.
