Hi just had a phone call offering me op for sat morning then withdrawn cos they can't do pre op in time apart from blood test what is involved that they cant squeeze me in?
The main part is blood test cause when I was first given app I went on the wed or Thursday for op on Monday and had phone call sat morn telling me I had a water infection even though had no symptoms and had to have strong course of anyi biotics and got another date two wks later
Hello Tracy, There are a number of processes that may be held up includes blood, urine & ECG tests. Also you will need to have an appointment with a physiotherapist (usually same day as pre-op) I had my right THR last July at a private hospital so the pre-op was 10 day before op. I'm a bit suprised that they offered you the op date on Sat as its known that they normally need at least 3 working days to clear tests. Regards Arthur
Tracey,
I live in the U.S. and at my pre-op they looked at all the meds and supplements I was taking and told me when to stop with them before surgery. They also require an EKG, blood work and you have to have a clearance from your dentist. They want to make sure you are in good health since this is major surgery. You will also need to get the things together that will assist you during your recovery; raised toilet seat, walker, cane/crutches, sock assist etc.
Good luck,
Kathee
I have been hassling secretary for weeks because i am over 18 weeks would have thought they at least would have got it out of the way sooner. Oh well bak to looking forward to April 2nd
Hi Tracy
Not sure if this is the case but when I had my op they had to do two blood test s and they have to be a week apart and the last one a few days before the op. Apparently this new rule only came into effect the week before I had my op in October. I wonder if this is the problem for you ?
I'm in the uk and was an nhs patient at a private hospital all went perfectly I'd just like to add good luck
Regards
Vicki
Hi Vicki did you have to push for being done private at cost to nhs I have been told this could happen if i kick off
I was given the option of 4 hospitals and I'd had dealings with one of them previous and wasn't happy about that one one had been in the news for bad practice and the other one was to far away so the private one was a no brainer. The treatment from consultant down to cleaners was top class. Can't fault it and it was my choice, it might depend on where you live Tracy I'm in the northwest, my consultant was really nice too, I googled him to check him out, with good reviews. Only thing I would say is aftercare ie physio etc is a bit sparse. But you can always ring if you have any problems, I didn't initially until i went back to work, but that's another story 😁 I can only talk positive about my op and care afterwards.
Any more questions Tracy just ask, the guys on the forum are all brilliant and have helped me tremendously over the last 10 weeks, I'm 16 weeks post op now
Good luck 😃
Vicki
thank you all for replies. I will be getting an appointment for pre op next week so i am ready if another short notice slot happens.
Good luck I know it's nerve raking but they really do look after you in the hospital 😃
When I had my pre-op, they did blood tests, an ECG, listened to my lungs, weighed me and measured my height to get my BMI and x-rayed my hips so they could get the right size replacement. Advised me on what I would be able to do for the first 6 weeks and what not to do, and talked about the anaesthetic. They also gave me 2 pre-op drinks to take, one the evening before and one on the morning of the op which I think are protein or carbohydrate based. It all took about 2 hours but it was well worth it.
Hi Tracy
As well as checking for anyi infection that you may have to have a course of anit biotics for before they wilol do it.
You also have a washyou must use everynight/day
There could be loads of other reasons depending where you are...I'm in the UK
