Just thought I would keep in touch with all you hippies and hippies to be.
Well here I am at 7.5 months post hip and suddenly feeling so much better. I am walking, putting my own socks and shoes on most of the time and driving as normal although I have changed my car to an automatic. Last weekend we went down to Brighton and I managed to descend 101 steps to the under cliff walk at Peacehaven (see Pic) walk 0.5 mile and 0.5 mile back and then climb 101 steps to the top. I was so pleased with myself. . The picture shows exactly where I walked. Follow the red line
This morning (Monday) I went to hydrotherapy and when the physio knew what I had done at the weekend she said "ok you do all your excersises with floats on", ( take heed don't tell them everything boasting doesn't always save you I managed it and now am totally whacked and in need of a well earned rest. I have been through a patch where I didn't think I would ever get better, but now all of a sudden everything falls into place and I have my life back. I still need my other hip doing, this is the one that gets aggrivated and painful nowadays but it will be done soon.
My message to everyone is don't give up it soooooo worth it, ups downs sulks and miseries all steps along the way. . Love Gillxxx
Great to hear that you've suddenly found your old life, or perhaps an improved one physically? Well done.
Your update really does give hope to people that feel that they're not progressing as well as they had thought - me included. I'm now almost 4 months post op, not too bad but still lots of aches and pains from time to time, especially knee and nerve pain going down leg during the night that wakes me up - did you get this?
yes Jo I got this and still do occassionally, physio says I either do too much or too little you decide lol. It is and does go away eventually. Love Gillxxx
Thanks, nice to hear, I am 14 weeks today. Yesterday wasn't my best, it seems I can be good one day and then thigh and knee pain the next. I was told by nurse on Bonesmart it could be 6 months and with some a year before feeling normal again. Just keep plodding along, my cousin older than i, was hiking in Puru at 3.5 months she said with no pain whatsoever, well...I don't think I could hike too far 😞
Hi I am 11wks post op, still exercising &walking well but two things that make me a little miserable are, not being able to put on my own socks and shoes or get a full nights sleep even though I can sleep on both sides ¬ be restricted to sleeping on my back.I get really frustrated with the sock/shoe issue, when did other "hippies"get to do this ? Also any tips on getting a good night's sleep please!!
I sleep fine, 14 weeks today and the operated side is still too sore to spend a lot of time on it. So I sleep on the other, if course I can get shoe and sick on good foot. I am trying to get my leg and thigh dtrtched enough to get foot on knee, unsucessful thus far. If the chair is low enough I can, with a lot of struggle due to my stomach!!!, get my shoe and sock on. If I were thinner I'd probably have less problems lol.
good to see you here again and such an inspiring post - wow, that is a big accomplishment - especially those steps ...
I am right in these fase of "will I ever be able to ..." ... First L THR did not have a real chance to heal with left hip getting so bad so fast - SO now both are healing and at times more aches in old new hip -
Hi Gillcat great post! I'm day 6 and got up today after 2 troublesome nights of broken sleep. Wondering how I am ever going to survive 6 weeks of sleeping on my back. Reading your post has created positive thoughts and reminded me to dig deep. I'm only at the start of my journey I can't be floundering so early on😄. Best wishes Annie
Sleeping on the back is a pain in the ..... well in the back !
Eventually you resign yourself to endure it - I am now almost 6 weeks, and have had some success rolling onto the side for a short while, supported by pillows.
First few weeks I had broken sleep - had to keep dashing off to the toilet every hour or so ............ not good for sleep and rest.
Cheers Graham , I didn't think was going to be that tricky. Boy was I wrong! Everything else post op I have been able to cope with. Endure is the right word! 😬
Oh Rose you will get there too, I can promise you that it hasn't been an easy ride lol if you dredge through some of my posts yu will see that, and some of it was my own stupidity like climbing hills and not being able to get down you'll soon be off them there crutches xx
Susie I was well on the way to recovery before I could put my shoes and socks on, in the Hotel last wekend Alan had to do it for me as the bed was too hight no chairs and the settee too low (see I'm never satisfied) don't worry it will come. xx
