after a yr dx and 1 attack I have had 4 in 2 wks

I have had a steriodinjection, currently on oral steriods, diurectic, and myzacline, anti-nausea, even valium to help.

strict addherence to salt, sugar. caffine avoidance.

I am just survivng from one attack to another totally dibilated.

can't find anything i can take without salt for constipation from

meds. just drinking water and fruit juice. any suggestions regarding the sugar in the fruit juice?

suppose to fly 18 hr flight, with 8 hr bus ride in 37days. any

about this trip? I will be in africa.

I knew it was recommended low salt & caffeine avoidance but didn't know about sugar. I still take coffee with half a tsp of sugar but don't touch alcohol now. My specialist has never mentioned a diuretic to me just to drink plenty, eat regular & not to get stressed. I wear varifocals & got tinted ones recently, it might look odd in winter but I found light bothered me and could give me a turn

Try chewing a little slice of raw ginger after each meal. It seems to help me. Have had meniere's for 6 years often get cluster attacks and lost 50%of hearing in right ear.

Took all kinds of medicine.

Reduce stress, exercise I ENJOY AND SWEAT DOING , balanced life style and NOW GINGER- seems to help the most. Also take Dramamine when I feel symptoms coming- ESP when there's a low pressure weather system coming.

Dear traci,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having such a rough time right now! There's nothing worse than that freaking constant vertigo!   I've got to tell you that a week after my first steroid injection, I had such severe vertigo and vomiting,  that I was hospitalized.  My doctor told me that sometimes it can really stir things up at first.  But I'm so glad that I stuck with it:  Four months (4 injections) later, I really started feeling improvement.  And now, 7 months later, I'm absolutely amazed how much better I am.  Initially, it was just that the attacks were less severe.  But now, I'm just not having them! (I shouldn't say that out loud!  I don't want to jinx myself!!!). So, try to hang in there if you can.  The steroid injections are not usually an instant fix,  but with a little time, most people seem to experience significant improvement.

You're right about the constipation, especially when you need to take a lot of rescue meds!  I find big doses of probiotics everyday are incredibly helpful, as well as lots of roughage and lots of water.  When that doesn't do the trick, Dulcolax tabs.  As far as I know, there is no issue with sugar and MD.  Did your doctor tell you to restrict sugar?  This is the first I've ever heard of it.

Just recently, I asked my doctor about flying, as I'll be flying to the east coast next week.  He said that flying has no effect on the MD.   The pressure changes you feel when flying happen in the middle ear rather than the inner ear, where all of the Meniere's mischief is happening.  If you typically get airsick, then I imagine that your anti-nausea meds will help.  The bus trip is different.  I would imagine that the bus trip would be more likely to trigger symptoms:  It involves that business about the eyes and the ears sending conflicting messages about where you are in space.  If it were me, I would play it safe and perhaps take a half meclazine, half Valium, and something for nausea, before taking off. My physical therapist also advised me to pick a point and focus on it, when I was riding on a bus or a passenger in a car...and that really helped.  Now that the injections have kicked in, I no longer have problems with motion sickness, but it was pretty severe in the early days.

Again, I'm sorry you're feeling so lousy.  It really can be a terribly debilitating condition.  But keep the faith: You're doing all the right things.  Hopefully the injections will begin to work soon.

Take good care.  Wishing you the best of luck!
