So this is my first time here and first post so I am going to try to make this as short as I can but I am wondering if anyone is suffering from these body sensations as well. It all started September of last year. Actually a few months before. I was having rapid heart rate and found moments when I had to catch my breath and focus on taking a deep breath to get the sensation of having my lungs full. This followed with my chest feeling tight. I went to a doctor and they asked me about my caffeine consumption and at the time I was drinking a few red bulls a day as well as pre-workout. After discussing with my doctor I cut the caffeine out of my diet and felt better. However in September of 2018 I was working out and felt a pop in my chest then a bunch of symptoms that followed including: rapid heart rate, Tingling sensation in my extremities and face, feeling faint like I was about to pass out or die. After waiting for the sensations to go for an hour I had no change so I called 911. I was taken to the hospital and had an echo cardiogram, EKG, and chest x-ray performed because they were concerned something may be wrong with my heart. The Doctors also performed blood work. I stayed at the hospital over night for observation and was released the next day. They found nothing wrong with my heart or blood work. I am also a Type 1 Diabetic and went to see my endocrinologist to speak with her about the situation and body sensations. She performed more blood work to test for addisons disease. That blood work came back negative for everything. Now after this I got body sensations like doom was near and my body didn't feel like my own. It felt weak and floaty like I had no weight to my body. Two weeks after being in the hospital I woke up in the middle of the night with a sensation that my stomach was turning and I was about to vomit but didn't. I also felt like my blood sugar was low but it was fine and then I also had rapid heart rate and tingling sensation in my face. Went to the hospital a second time and all the same tests were performed and once again no sign of anything wrong. I've met with a cardiologist and had a stress test and heart monitor test done and everything was normal. I have never been a anxious individual but with everything going on and no answers I started to become anxious and depressed. I have met with my doctor and explained my symptoms as well as feeling very faint every now and then. The best description I can give is imagining that you are a light bulb and you are attached to a dimmer that someone else is in control f and they just keep fucking with you and turning it up and down randomly making you feel light, weak and faint with no control of your body. Since speaking with my doctor I was prescribed venlafaxine. I have been on this medication for about four months now and it has helped a lot with the severe body sensations but I still feel a little anxious at times and get the sensation my blood sugar is low when it is not. So controlling my blood sugar has been a struggle cause i can no longer sense my lows or highs. I have scheduled another appointment with my doctor to go over the medication and also scheduled an appointment with a physiologist to discuss my anxiety. I know that was a lot but I want to see if anyone else has felt this way especially if you are a type 1 diabetic. I looking for other opinions and possible answers/ solutions for what I have been dealing with.
- Not a diabetic, but all of the symptoms you described I have had from anxiety at one time or another. That popping feeling in your chest…To me that felt like a flutter all of a sudden and I thought it was my heart, so I freaked out, but now I know that’s its actually just chest muscles spazzing from being tense lol.
- It’s good that you’re seeing your Dr and trying meds. I would highly recommend seeing a therapist as well, someone who specializes in anxiety disorders is best. After I started seeing a therapist I was able to handle my anxiety symptoms muchhh better.
- I know it’s scary but don’t worry there is nothing wrong you physically. Everything you described is anxiety related, it causes some serious physical symptoms that u wouldn’t believe. Trust me I’ve had it for 10 years and my physical symptom list goes on and on lol.
Thank you for your response, It does help ease the fear of what is going on with my body.
Its just so crazy that these body sensations can be so intense! Especially when
So since having it for ten years have you discovered any ways to really subside the body sensations so they are not so intense? I have also gotten this feeling like my stomach feels empty and my spine feels like its not there… its so weird. I am just amazed at how this can happen out of nowhere.. especially since I have never been an anxious person and have always been physically active. Now I just feel like a different person.
- I still get the physical symptoms, even though I’m able to cope with my anxiety much better now. It’s frustrating, but what helps them is really just knowing that they are anxiety induced. Bc the reason the sensations are there and are so intense is bc you’re afraid of them and worrying about them. Once you realize nothing is wrong with you, and that it IS just anxiety symptoms, you won’t be as afraid of them and then in return the symptoms will lessen and/or disappear. That’s what I’ve noticed so far at least lol. Definitely easier said than done though.
- Just to give you another example of symptoms I’ve had besides the chest fluttering, etc… There was a period last year where I was having actual chest pains for like 4 months. It hurt so bad sometimes that even if I chuckled I’d be in pain. I started worrying something was wrong with my heart. N then one day in the car my arm suddenly started feeling numb, and I began sweating like crazy and I was like oh my god am I having a heart attack. I went to urgent care and had an EKG done and they were like nope, you’re totally fine it’s just anxiety. Again, after I heard I was okay I calmed down and now I haven’t had chest pains since.
- It seems crazy that anxiety could cause such intense symptoms. But my friend is an EMT and she always says you wouldn’t believe the amount of 911 calls for heart attacks that end up being just panic attacks/anxiety. That right there shows u how intense the symptoms can be!
- As far as what’s causing your anxiety that I can’t say, but that’s where a therapist might be a really good idea for you. They may be able to fig out where this anxiety stems from and why it’s popping up all of a sudden. My therapist helped me with that a lot.
