Anxiety can cause palpitations,
Try Mindfulness Relaxation Technique, your GP can possibly give tapes to explain a Technique or you can get a book on Amazon that explains how to perform it.
Breathing Techniques can also help
All the best

One of the most common symptom of anxiety seems to be heart palps, racing heart, pounding heart however you want to describe it. And so so many people think they have a heart problem, focus on the palps and convince themselves they are about to die.
Let me re assure you, you will not die from any anxiety symptom no matter how distressing. It the bodys natural response to stress, the flight or fright thing, an adrenaline rush. And the more you fixate on the symptoms the worse they will become, its a bit like the "itch scratch itch" syndrome.
the more you scratch the more you itch, exactly the same with anxiety, the more you worry the worse the symptoms, so what to do, well I believe firstly, if you can identify the cause of your anxiety, and no matter how distressing, somehow deal with it, then your symptoms will slowly subside.
Secondly, even if you cant identify the trigger, then Ignore the symptoms, acknowledge them, then ignore them, push through them, get on with your life. Try meditating, hard at first but will relax you, lots free to download online, play about till you find something that feels right for you, and make yourself do it Every day, it will help.
Take up a hobby, also there is method of Tapping ,meridion points on your body, think its called eft. It does help, I have used it and was suprised.
Buy some rescue remedy, might take the edge off for you. And also slow belly breathing is really helpful.
All that said, there is no quick fix, unless you can identify and deal with the any worries, stresses, or problems that are causing the anxiety. there nearly is always a reason, or a build up of several smaller problems. Hope this helps a little.
Hi Laura,
I too suffet with Anxiety and have been prescribed 50mg Sertraline, which I've been taking now for Eleven weeks. Before taking this medication I was taking myself to A&E every other week for fear of some form of heart condition. After having ECG scans, bloods and X ray, all came back clear. However, I have and still do, experience palpitations skipped or missed beats. They are scarey, but after assurance and explanation that a missed or skipped beat, is in fact a premature or extra beat, and it is alot more common than you think. Thing is you never notice them when your busy or preoccupied, but once I start to relax, they tend to make there presen, like now. It's been a year now just over, when I had my first experience, and I'm still here, just don't what some call on here Dr google. There are people on here who mirror your symptoms, and will give good and honest advice 💛
Thank you Dave ❤️
Thank you Wendy for your advice i had my son last year I went through an awful lot and he was born premature my anxiety Defo came from this as I never used to be a nervous wreck. I think I have post traumatic stress but my doc hasn't but a label on my anxiety yet
Same here Laura ive had anxiety for over 20 hears always convinced i had a heart problem im 44 and i drink to cure it just feel normal bad idea it makes it worse i ve cut back and now i think i get alcohol withdrawls and palpitations is one symptoms lucky me!
Everybody gets heart palps every now and then, anxiety or not. With anxiety, though, probably makes them more frequent. My anxiety hasn't been so bad lately, but I still get little heart palps. Sometimes there are a lot, though. It can be scary, but it's completely normal.
Hi Laura, sounds like you have identified the source of your anxiety, and I would guess if your son was premature, you have spent several months after his birth worrying about him, all very normal, its what mums do. You were also recovering from the birth, and as he was premature you werent prepared mentally for his early arrival.
I am not suprised you are having anxiety symptoms,
I do hope your doctor takes you seriously, as he can help you, if he doesnt help, go and see someone else.
Dont be pawned off, as it is a really common problem with lots of women after giving birth, especially if it was traumatic as yours was, plus the worry afterwards of a tiny prem baby.
I am sure this will pass for you hun, but a little help from your gp would speed up the process no end ,. X
Thank you for your kind words And advice Wendy x
