I am five days post op. I have some swelling in my foot and ankle and yesterday developed blisters which have increased overnight. I rang the ward who said keep an eye on them and to contact my GP if I was concerned. Has anyone else has this? What am I keeping an eye on? They are quite uncomfortable, not painful.
No blisters but my leg and ankle are very swollen, and painful in the calves,in fact I went to the surgery for a check in case it was Dvt. It wasn't, still best to check these things out if not sure. Tony
Hi Kevin. I would contact your GP anyway just to put your mind at rest.
Dear Kevin,
Welcome to our hippies family ...
Ough !!! where are the blisters ? are they blister blsiters or just sore skin patches that are burning - like from rubbing the sheet ....blisters might open and get infected - this is not good , so maybe watch for that.
Swelling of ankle and foot is normal - My leg was swelling up from thigh all the way down to foot but was gone in 10 days ... just make sure you don;t have a fever ...
call your surgeon or GP to be safe ...
big hug

Yes it's infection I'm worried about. I've called 111 and am waiting for a call back.
These things always happen at the weekend! It sounds
as if someone should actually look at your skin. 5 days
post op I would ring the hospital. It might be an allergic reaction
but so near to your operation, you need a medic to look at it.
good luck Cathie
Blisters can be common after hip replacement surgery. It can be due to the swelling, and the extra fluid of the swelling leaking into the layers of the skin. My surgeon had mentioned this to me before surgery so that if it happened I wouldn't be too alarmed. It can also be from the dressing. Do some reading on this, and I'm sure that it will put your mind at ease somewhat.
