Can’t walk unaided 10 weeks post R THR... scared

Still can’t walk without crutch(as instructed by consultant) 10 weeks post op, lurch to the side . Can’t stand on bad leg unsupported and side leg raises very feeble(8”off floor).. feels that there is no support on replacement side. Having hydro weekly and physio, now worried as 2 weeks post op staggered back in bathroom and bad leg went back, I didn’t fall . Told hospital they didn’t seem worried now they are saying in need mri as may have tear in abductor muscle ( this was cut and repaired during surgery)... absolutely devastated as this means many more months on crutches and more surgery, I am puzzled how just this simple action could do this much damage,.... thanks

Hi Michelle are you 2 weeks or 10 weeks post THR?

Dear Michelle

This is not what anyone having replacement hip surgery should be expecting at ten weeks post op. so disappointing for you especially as the future at the moment had a big question mark over it.

What was your physical fitness prior to the surgery Michelle, weight and age please?

Once we know the above and anything else you think may be important to know there is more chance of a useful response.

Cheers Richard

This has been ongoing for over 5!years, age 47 . Weight 13 stone 5 ft 8”.  Pretty fit as self employed... they think it is an abductor muscle tear as these were cut during lateral approach

10 weeks post op 😔

So sorry but im afraid you must have the mri. 10 wks post op after an almost fall means there may be some amount of damage. It could mean simple stitch up & use of your new hip if you do the mri. Im not yet 12 weeks post after fall with break then thr & walking in aided. Not fit before but not unhealthy & 70 yo.  Go for it Michelle. Walking again is a pleasure. You
