Fresh bleeding and clots nearly three weeks post op

hi. This is my second post on here and it's about the same issue. I had posterior/anterior repairs with sacrospinous fixation almost three weeks ago. I've been feeling pretty good and taking things quietly except that I've started going for short walks. I had some bleeding after 11 days and was reassured that I may have just overdone the activity. I've been good since then. However this time I am bleeding quite a lot more and passing clots. It is like a period type of loss with accompanying stomach cramps. As I'm post menopause it's not likely to be a period but it certainly brings back memories ofmthe same sensation. I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone with similar symptoms. Thanks.

I had a period but thought I was bleeding. Personally I'd see my GP just to be on the safe side.

Hope your recovery goes well x

Thank you Doris. I will see how I go tonight then call doctor tomorrow if it's still the same.

Fingers crossed for you. X

I would put your feet up today but if you are worried please see your GP.

You do sometimes get heavy bleeding following any pelvic floor surgery. If the blood is a brown colour it's old blood and probably residual stuff from your operation. Normal red is obviously fresh and sometimes caused by the sutures. The clots mean that it's been in the body long enough to clot before it is passed. It can also mean an infection but that would usually have an offensive smell, but not always. Most doctors treat the symptoms with an antibiotic but make sure you don't become anaemic.

Hi I am 51had same op as you on Dec 29th I had my post op check up at 4 weeks. Afterwards for a week I bled bright red blood and lots of clots. A bit crampy thought it was a period I am very irregular now anyway, but I phoned the ward and spoke to nurse .She said if it lasts more than a week or smells at all go to doctor if not all normal. It did stop at about 6 days and no probs since .I am at 9 weeks tomorrow .Doing stuff now hovering and ironing back at work in  couple of weeks. Good luck and for your peace of mind ring and speak to someone.

Thank you Pam. I did call the hospital who contacted the surgeon. I was told to rest totally but come to the hospital if the bleeding continued as heavily. Thankfully the bleeding has settled a lot overnight. I will certainly be taking it easy for a few ldays as it was very frightening. I don't understand how it happened but it has made me aware of not doing too much even if I feel well.

Thanks Matron. Things have settled for now and I'm taking it easy for a few days.

So do as you're told angela 😘😘
