Genital Herpes "Shelf Life"

I was diagnosed with a "mild" case of Genital Herpes about thirty years ago. But for the past ten or fifteen years, I haven't seen or felt any symptoms at all. It's like I never had it in the first place. Could it be that my immune system has become strong enough to keep it permanently dormant? Should I be concerned about any future outbreaks or transmission?

You are still likely to be asymptomatically shedding from time to time (studies have shown that viral shedding never fully stops, but even after many years), but probably not much or very often after all these years.

So you haven't had any breakouts since you were diagnosed ??

No irratation itching or anything ?

Yes, lots of breakouts and itching at the beginning, back around 1986. Since then, the frequency of these symptoms has gradually lessened over the years, to the point where I don't recall an outbreak or even itching for at least the past ten years. I swear, it feels like I've been cured, even though I know that's not the case.
