Has anyone suffered a groin strain following hip replacement. 😖 have been struggling with recovery and was doing aqua fit on holiday about 5,weeks ago pain is really debilitating and it's been difficult to do any strength training because of it .anyone able to advise me on this??
Hi Lara
I'm not sure but I know I was told not to do the breast stroke afterwards because of the movement of the legs.....what did the aqua fit involve?
It can be a vicious circle......You exercise, get pain, then cant exercise, and dont exercise, pain can then get worse.
I was told to just do small gentle movements for quite a while.

I am March 2014 THR too, between 6-8 weeks that's when i had horrible pain in the groin area that lasted for about 2 weeks. I attributed the relapse to over exercise, for me it was walking long distance and bending a lot pulling weeds in the backyard. I am fine now. Just take it easy for a couple of weeks. That's what i did.
Thanks kaleani, hopefully will ease up soon
I have it too. Iliopsoas tendonosis- read up it. FLEXOR MUSCLE GROUP. Can be extremely tight after surgery and rub on pelvis or implant hardware. Getting out of bed, coughing, sneezing, lifting your leg up while laying on your back are all extremely painful.
I'm most likely going back for revision. I will find out Tuesday. It is very hard to work that group as it gets irritated and then you are down.
I'll let you know what happens with me Tuesday. I don't want to go back in but I may have no other choice if I want to go back to normal-ish.
Thanks for the reply. Am now being referred to a orthopaedic physician. To do intensive work on muscle strengthen for muscle waste in legs. So fingers crossed. Let us know how you get on.
Best of luck with the muscle stregthening. Everything I do just irritates the thigh group.
Tuesday when I went in my OS gave me a different shot- right into the joint to see if I possibly had a lose cup. It hurt like hell! Didn't help at all. Going back today to see what he tells me.
I've been reading up about stretching the tendons out in that area as they become shortened over time.
I know before surgery I favored that area and it was not completely mobile. I even slept with a pillow under my knee thus keeping the tendon short.
I also was reading about psoas and iliac massage and how that can help.
I'll let you know what happens😃
Thanks trying the gym and weights. Hate it. Love swimming but it's really aggravating groin. The sea helps freeze s pain for a little while. Let me know if u find anything that relieve the pain
Just found out I Def have to go back for revision. Boo!
At least he'l be able to see what's really going on and try to fix it.
Hello i am around 3 weeks post op. Before surgery my leg really lost length ..post op it appears to be 'trying ' to be the same length but i seem to have shortening/rigidity in that tendon that goes down to the groin. the leg will only open so far apart and also when i lie completely flat the affect leg will not straighten/knee doesn't go flat..It all feel great apart from that which i think is behind the leg still being a bit short . can that tendon be stretched to be as long as it used to be. Where did you read about it please?
Hello there try and go to this site.
I'm in the US So not sure if from where you are will take you there but it's a good site for stretches.
I know that tendons can be stretched but it takes a while. On the site there's a header for stretches and other good info.

Every time I try to post a site it moderates me.
Stephen O'Dwyer is the CNMT . There are cds available but also lots of free info. If I wasnt going back in for revision I'd get the cds but now I'll just see how the surgery goes first.
Good Luck with your tendon. I'm sure it can happen but t seems like massage and stretching will be something regular for you. I think that's not all bad, at least we're paying attention to our bodies😉
Hi
We aren't allowed to post links.....I've had the same problems
Send it in a pm to whoever you want to send the link to

Thank you jill. Tomorrow seeing physio as i think it would be foolish to start stretching tendons in the area without affecting new hip. Pain has gone so maybe a shoe lift first..will ask anyway..
Tnx Eileen😃
Best of Luck with your appt. Hope things stay better for you.
