Hi, I'm driving myself insane here!
Any advice would be great, after unprotected sex years ago I started to not feel well and got some swollen lymph nodes in neck, these have been there for months now with no sign of illness. I took a rapid HIV test a year ago at a private doctors it was negative but I keep thinking he may have read the results wrong, what if he made a mistake reading the results as read the test should show one line but I keep thinking I saw two? I so scared.....do you think I should retest? Thanks for any help.
If its driving u mad def re test
My husband thinks I'm crazy and said that the doctor is a professional and knows how to read these tests.....I've just convinced myself he got it wrong, I'm suffering terribly from health anxiety and I have emailed the doctor say g I'm worried the test didn't work or something and he said he is confident I have nothing to worry about and no need to retest. I think I may be on the boundary if becoming insane!
I think u need to talk to ur doc abt something for ur anxiety there are meds to help
Well first and foremost:
When was the risk? What was the risk? And when did you take the test? How many weeks or months after the risk did you take that test?
The risk was 7 years ago and was unprotected vaginal sex. The test was taken 7 years after. Thanks
Did you have any other risky encounters since that risk? If not, then your test is 100% reliable, UNLESS you suspect your husband of being unfaithful. If not, then you're more than fine and your test is 1000% conclusive. Antibodies take about 3-6 months to appear in ones body. That's the window period. So you know now that you're fine.
Anyway, I'd test for other viruses instead. Such as mono, or cmv. Mono causes swollen lymph nodes. If not, I'd have your doctor check at those swollen lymph nodes.
Remember, every 6 months, one must have a blood HIV test (preferably 4th gen Elisa's if your doctor provides this)
