Just over 3 weeks on and 2nd physio appointment

hello

just updating on my progress . 3 1.2 weeks since operation.

went to physio today she is happy with my movement and flexibility.Am on one crutch at the moment but

she has given me exercises now on standing on operated leg to get

strength back so looking to try and walk without limp when no crutches.

Hopefully in 10 days time when see her will be able to do that.

walked about mile yesterday all at once and will try and walk further now (with both crutches as outside).

feeling a lot more positive.

Hi Maggie .. wow, 3 + weeks post op already !  and doing so good too -- congratulations - still early though so be careful not to overdo it ...take care -

wishing you a good night and love to read more about your recovery ...

warm hug

renee

sounds like your on the right path to recovery !!

Sounds like things are going great - the one thing I need to work on is strength in my operated leg.  I'm still going up the stairs using the good leg up to heaven method which seems a bit ridiculous when I'm walking around normally otherwise.  Have started to use light ankle weights to try and build some muscle - will look for some other exercises to do on the internet too.

Well done!

hi renee

yes will take care as you say. Physio told me to stop when my body told me so going to do that. thanks maggie

hi georgie

thanks hoping so.

maggie

hi mark

the physio told me the exercises to do on my operated leg were

(a) Stand on one leg. operated one and hold for a few second s and keep doing that to try and get it stronger. you can hold on to worktop while doing it.

(b) holding on to worktop with either one hand or just fingers shuffle sideways on both legs without crutches to strengthen the unoperated leg too. eventually if possible letting the hand go entirely.

maggie

Thanks Maggie - I'm walking pretty much unaided now but have weakness in the operated leg when going up hill or up stairs - will try your standing on the operated leg exercise to see if that helps.

Hi Maggie and everyon....I just fornd this site when searching for post op recovery time line...amazing...I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and I had a difficult time blood transfusion so I wasn't out of bed for the first 3 days in hospital...came home felt wonderful then was laid out with the flu for an other 3 days ...so I am behind on my recovery...and dicouraged...I am being so hard on myself but want to please my surgeon when I see him next ....congratulations to you and all recovering fro THR

hello

welcome to the forum. I just joined a couple of weeks ago too and found it very useful too.

Glad you are now on the way to recovery and take care it will all come in time. maggie

Sounds like good progress to me. I would just suggest that rather than 1 long walk more shorter walks might be good. It's good that you are using crutches though because it supports you walking properly.

I couldn't put all my weight on the operated leg at that time. I'm now nearly 9 weeks and can now put trousers on standing up which I couldn't do before my op and couldn't do till around the 6-7  week mark.

hi annedi

yes will do that.  got tired day after long walks so will try shorter ones.

glad you are doing well. maggie
