Started feeling dizzy about a week ago - no war pain although I do suffer from regular ear infections.
This time though my vision is kinda weird - struggling to focus and almost as if things arnt real.
Doctors said both ears were too full of wax to see and said labyrinthitus - can this cause these symptoms?
I thought a few days ago I was improving but then next minute I was in bed for 48 hours - I wouldn't describe it as dizzyness more unable to focus/loss of lucidity ?
I had this once, caused by a virus or bacteria, I had lots of pain in my ear as well. Doctor gave me antibiotics which cured it. May I ask how old are you?
I'm 33 male.
It's the vision thing I'm struggling with most. Makin me very panicky
Did the doctor give you any antibiotic or something for the ear infection? I don't think I would have done well without it? Did he flush the wax out of your ears? Mine did after I had a lot of wax also.
Do you get more stumbling about than dizzy I I d
Someone in an earlier thread said to looking into Vertical Heterophoria. based on visual/ depth perception being off especially while driving . I'm going to look into this further
Literally made a post earlier saying the SAME EXACT thing! I said how things don't feel real and how I can't really focus and feel foggy/confused. You can go look! Lol
I'm glad someone else out there knows what I mean. I have no idea what it's from but I'm guessing it relates to our inner ear issues.
It makes me extremely panicky as well. It's the worst feeling!
I find if I lay down and keep my eyes closed for a while that it subsides for a little bit but it usually comes back.
Without hearing loss, I doubt that labyrinthitis is the diagnosis. However, the vestibular pathway may be involved bilaterally, which is probably causing the visual problems. However, it is difficult to say from here. Someone needs to check your eye movements, with and without visual fixation. Either ENT/neurotology/neurology.

So what's the prognosis doctor?
If it isn't labyrinthitis, then what could be it be?
It is difficult to say from here whether the cause is in the peripheral vestibular system (the ear or very close by) or related to the nervous system (brain). That is why I insist that a full clinical examination (including eye movements) be performed? Has it been done? If the conclusion was labyrinthitis, have you been given treatment?

Unless we hear from the patient who said his doctor gave him the labyrinthitis diagnosis we won't know. I was diagnosed with BPPV yesterday and treated with meclizine which has helped me over the past 2 days. It's my hope to be cured by tomorrow. But these medical things always interest me.
The doctor gave me anti sickness pills and some drops for the wax but that's it??. I should have said I had a full eye check at an opticians which came back absolutely fine.
Thank you. The eye examination I was referring to was checking if the eyes move correctly to the left, to the right, up and down. This is not a test that an optician would be, but either ENT/Neurotology/Neurology.

Well I've just been back to the doctors and there is still massive wax build up in both ears.
Has booked me in for sringeing says this can completely throw your balance off ??
I've got some antibiotics as well just in case of infection.
Well a week later - I have had my ears microsuctioned privately as I didn't want to wait two weeks for an appointment to be syringed.
I should mention I got I such a state a few nightsbefore that I ended up at A&E having massive panick attack. ECG was fine.
After the microsucktion I felt no immediate improvement (the doctor had said it could be impacted wax) although a lot of wax came out.
The blurred vision however has gone as has the dizzyness. I am still struggling badly with this 'spaced out feeling like I'm dreaming' they are treating me with beta blockers for anxiety but I'm not convinced!
So I have now been off work for one month. I am waiting on blood test results to rule other potential causes.
I still feel constantly light headed and the feeling that the world isn't real/spaced out like I've had several beers.
The latest doctor says this is the virus still in my vestibular system.
Seems worse from around tea time and into the evening - I dread going to bed.
I am on propranolol to chill me out but can't shake the spaced out feeling. I have amoxicillin that I didn't take initially and am wondering if it's worth trying them in case it's bacterial ? Will I be ok taking with propranolol?
Well it been 18 months since I had initially started feeling poorly so I thought I would post an update.
i have mainly been getting on with life - business has been going great and I’m no longer stressed, however I’m still fighting something!
a few symptoms remain - still the lump in back of neck - a skin rash for a long long time in various areas which a recent course of antifungal medication has cleared (almost) terrible fatigue and still not feeling ‘back to normal’
they found vitamin D level was low (19)
a second ultrasound on neck found a very small cyst apparently but I have not yet discussed this with doctor.
an ulcerated lesion on my neck was swabbed and sent to lab and the doctors called and scheduled a telephone app tomorrow regarding that result (I should add I’ve had similar lesions on various parts of body during period of illness which have now healed) four left arm one back of neck two chest one inner thigh.
