Palpatations

Tonight ive started to have palpatations my heart keeps missing a beat or 'fluttering' im terrified something awful is going to happen. My heart isnt racing and I was relaxed when they started... recently i have my suffering with increased panic attacks for no reason. I have been free from any anxiety problems for years. Anybody else experienced palpatations due to anxiety? Just looking for some reassurance thanks

Hi. How old are you? Breathe in for 5, hold for 5. Breathe out for 5. Repeat.

hello louise.  it get this all the time and have for years.  yes they're always alarming but after a while they seem to become a minor distraction.  it's very common with anxiety.  i could be lying down watching a movie feeling totally relaxed and they come on or wake up from a dead sleep because of it.

Hi Louise I'm the same as you i feel like my heart missing a beat it's wores at night i have anxiety

Thanks for the comments its made me feel a lot better

It's okay. I have 5 day heart monitor fitted they said it's nothing to worry about my heart is in rhythm. Do you have anxiety

My miss beat get worse at night

Yes i had a really bad episode of anxiety a few years ago it consumed my life, i was off work for months, on numerous meds then had cbt which made it stop. Since then ive had the panic attack but nothinhlg like this.

For about the past 2 weeks ive had increased anxiety and panic attacks but last night i had palpatations something ive never had before.

Do not worry my heart starts to race the goes back to normal do not worry

Palpitations can be part of Anxiety, so I would advise you talk to your GP and He will discuss the reasons of your Anxiety.

When I was in my teens I suffered the same, they eventually disappeared. In my case I suffered a Heart Murmer when a baby, now I live with it and it does not bother me. The possibility of a heart condition is slight when so young.

Hi Louise - Palpatations are one of the more distressing symptoms and are very common with anxiety even if you have not really suffered from anxiety very much recently.  You have clearly been through a tough time in the past with anxiety anyway and unfortunately you sometimes have to do battle with it again terms of symptoms like this.  I have experienced the same and can totally empathise as palpitations really make you feel scared and even terrified which just make the feeling worse. Also you need to remember that you are far more likely to be aware of palpatations when you are resting and relaxed as you have nothing else to really distract you.   I would be amazed if you had a heart problem but I think it would be a really good idea for you to talk to or see your GP to get some reassurance and perhaps talk about the increase in frequency of panic attacks.  Be kind to yourself and know that although the palpitations feel horrible they are just a sensation driven by anxiety that is unpleasant and scary but is highly unlikely to harm you.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply. I booked a GP appointment for next week.

Ive been listening to a meditation/relaxation audio for anxiety which I think helps.

I just feel awful at the minute becuase im waiting for it to happen again... am just trying to force myself to stay relaxed.
