Hi I am five weeks post op. Does anybody else get swelling in their non operated lower leg.
I'm only 2 weeks post op, had swelling in the operated leg, but not the other one. Do you think it might be worth getting it checked? It could be that what with the weight shift that the leg is not used to it & it's a muscle problem, but we all got warned about DVT etc, so please, put yourself at ease & ask the doc. We are all capable of giving good tips/advice here be we aren't doctors. Good luck with it.
Hi I only seem to get the swelling when I've been out and about walking for quite a bit of the day I only use one crutch. I'm presuming its because I've been on my feet. Just wondering how long it will last for.
Maybe cut back some in the walking? I saw the Physio for the first time yesterday, blimey that hurt! he told me to concentrate more in the excersises than the walking, hope you get it sorted soon!
Hi Claire I had my thr 2nd May but it's my other foot and ankle that gets very swollen to the stage I can't walk propely , I have been the docs about it and at first she thought it was a dvt but they can't find any blood clot, even so they have sent me every week just to be safe , then I went for a check up to see my oa specialist and he said it's osteoarthritis as well , now I have it in my left hip , spine , neck and slightly in my hands .. Hope that helps but go the docs if it's worrying you .
I too am 5 weeks post op, no swelling in either legs, I would get that checked, are you still wearing the horrid socks?
Hi still wearing the socks. I think its because I had a heavy day of walking round shops with my daughters ( I'm only 46) I only use one crutch may be I should use two when shopping. so just wondered if it had happened to anybody else. I may be should limit myself to one shop or just do it on line for now 😊
Claire, This is said in the nicest possible way: I'm surprised your whole body is not swollen after retail therapy at only five weeks after a major operation. Take it easy! There will be years of shopping ahead if you take care of yourself now.
Hi Claire i am only 43 and walking is a struggle still as i got it in my back but go and get your foot looked at just to be safe like i did . My foot and ankle swell up so much that i can't get my shoes on , try and keep your foot elevated and make appointment to c someone x
Hi my foot isn't swollen just a tightening in my calf I'm at the physio on Monday. I did this last week so I think its because I've been walking to much yesterday which I knew I shouldn't do but I still did it. I just wondered how long it will keep swelling for. 😕
Hi Claire.
The swelling in your non opertaed leg, when sitting down raise the leg so that the blood can flow.
You should be wearing the Anti-embolism stocking all the time on both leg for 6 weeks that's help with the blood flow. just remove them to wash your feet and check your skin for any signs of breakdown.
Dont for get to do the exercises that will help with thw blood flow in both legs.
Good Luck.
Hope that will help.
Good Luck
I had mine done 2 months ago but the swelling gets bigger and bigger and the skin is really tight am going to get a xray Monday to see if there is any fractures even thou i no there isn't and we have ruled out a clot but i still have to get a scan every week just in case , apart from that its osteoarthritis and will stay swollen with little chipolata toes haha x
Carmen......
I'm currently 2 weeks PO. The letter I recieved from my surgeon the other day (with an appointment to see him on the 30/7) says that my stockings can come off after 3 weeks, I thought that was early but must admit can't wait till I do get them off. Went to Physio two days ago & staples out yesterday, Physio just checked range etc but boy, do they like giving you pain?
Martin..... i feel for you, i can only imagin the pain, I was lucky i had Dissolvable stiches and glue to seal the the skin outside. I was given books on all the stages of my op what to do before and after the op so wearing the stockings for 6 weeks is what was recommend i know it's a pain but it's for the best i had to give myself injections for 28 days after the op to stop bloos clots the stocking is to help with that also.
I was lucky i had my op at one of the top hospita, and was recommend one of the best hospital. informations that i've post is from my experience and the team from the hospital.
Everyone is different what works for one may not work for another.
Am still learning as am now in the 13th weeks, still early days.
Keep doing the exercise, am still doing them when every i can.
Keep us posted.
I have to agree with juliettes comment that it's way to early to go dragging round the shops, I think your probably over doing things, take it a bit easier in these early days good luck
Carmen......the staples were really nothing at all, the nurse said that they might pull, but didn't, no feeling at all when they were coming out! I was tongue in cheek about the Physio, they have a job to do & know their stuff, so no pain no gain huh? You really do find out on here that every surgeon is different. My surgeon believes in injections whilst at hospital & low dose aspirin once at home. I found that strange but he's meant to be a good one I'm on par & really do hope that I'm back to work within 12-13 weeks, but who knows?
Hi Claire,
To be on the safe side I would get it checked with your doctor. It is probably nothing and you are putting more weight on your non-operated side which may cause this. Hope it gets resolved soon for you.
I had my lt thr 21 nov 2013 and both my legs swelled but eventually the swelling went down by about 3-4 weeks but if conscerned see your GP to put your mind at rest.
Hi have seen the physio today she advised that I was putting too much weight on my Un operated leg andn ot to use my crutch at all at 5 1/2 weeks thought that was pretty good.
Hi I'm five weeks post op but not had any swelling at all but was told if I did was to lie down on your bed flat with pillows under the leg for no more than half an hour hope that helps Claire
