TKR minus 11 days.....

Evening all.....

So, I'm on the last leg (ha ha!) before my op on March 6th, and had my pre op today. So long as my MRSA swabs come back negative, it's all systems go. Must say I was a bit taken aback, when I was chatting to the nurse practitioner doing all my tests, and told her I'd already been to the Enhanced Recovery class - apparently my particular surgeon doesn't participate in the programme! So I'm to forget a lot of what I was told by the team last week, and expect a couple of extra days in hospital..at the end of the day, though, it's all about the final result, not the journey there. I'm happy to report no recent meltdowns, and Hubby was looking at online pictures and videos

of my forthcoming surgery today, asked me if I know what it looks like lol! Up till today he's refused to look at it at all, so it's definite progress!

Hope everyone is well and pain free tonight x xxx

Hi terri, good luck for your op you seem to be in a good frame of mind which will.help.try not to rush things afterward, we all heal at different paces, and its so easy to think I should be doing this or that. Just bear with it and let your body heal at its own pace.

Good luck for the operation, and a couple of extra days in hospital doesn't sound like a bad idea to me at all!  why be in a hurry to get back home when in hospital at least they'll serve you meals and make the bed for you!  I looked at the video of the operation last night six weeks after the op.

Be sure to let us know how you get on, Terri, we will all be thinking of you at the time! X

Hi Terri well my day has come, I am now counting down the hours, I have had my first preoperation drink, and my bag is packed. This time tomorrow my op will be over and the journey begins? I will keep you posted with my progress, I will be in hospital 3-5 days but aiming for 3. Just a thought is this classed as metal surgery instead of plastic surgery? Take care xxLouise

Good luck Louise!  Yes, when you try to lift your leg first time you'll definitely think 'heavy metal surgery!'  Don't rush to get out!  and keep us all informed!

Good luck Louise! We'll all be thinking of you.

Kind regards,

Gill X

Bless you my lovely, I bet youre a bundle of nerves!! All the very best, Ill be so interested to hear how you get on.

Hope all goes swimmingly for you, take care xx

Thank you. I am now all Hybi scrubbed full of the drinks sat in bed so that I don't go in the kitchen to eat( I eat more when nervous) have to be up at 5 so that I can shower again in  hybi scrub then get to hospital by 6:45 do not know what time op is yet but hope it is in the morning. You all take care speak to all when home xx

Best of luck!  Heavens, lots more preparations in England than over here in Spain . . they didn't even ask me if I'dbothered to have a shower. . . . and never heard of the drinks . .not a gin and tonic obvioulsy . . . .

I wish it was g&t no it is a pre op drink that is supposed to take the stress to the body away Chichester hospital appear to be very good! So I was prepared to travel a little further? Take care hope all is going well.

I am all agog! Are you uk or USA? Bless you anyway x

Hi Daphne! I'm uk where are you? X

Hello Louise! I have lived in Jolly old Clacton-on-Sea for 80 years bar 4 years evacuated near Tring, Hertfordshire. My last TKR was in the disreputable Essex County Hospital, Colchester ! 'Nuff said, and no physio offered, but I am going to have my second TKR in The Oaks, Colchester which is a private hospital and consultant but NHS are kindly bearing the cost, should I live that long. I have two other unrelated ops to face In Essex County first. And ongoing bronchitis and asthma etc. We DO have such fun, don't we? rolleyes but thank God for NHS anyway.wink

Wow you certainly are going through the wars. I hope your 2 other ops go well xx take care

Good luck for all these operations!  My very first holiday (in 1948) was in Clacton on Sea!  I still remember sitting on a wall there while my father took a photograph . .almost my earliest memory! (born 1944)

Thank you, Louise.
