[UPDATE] - Recently diagnosed with HSV2, Could test results be wrong?

This is the update of my previous post  https://patient.info/forums/discuss/recently-diagnosed-with-hsv2-could-test-results-be-wrong--361917

So me and my boyfriend went to see another OBGYN today since my doctor, who diagnosed me, went on vacation. I told him we got few questions about the test results. He believed and was sure it was negative because eventhough my blood test came out borderline positive with IGM, my culture test shows negative. He said IGM only shows that I was exposed to the virus but doesn't mean I was infected. Also said he studied herpes and has 30+ years of experiences so he knows for sure its negative.

I was hopeful again after hearing that but we decided to hear opinions from another doctor just to be sure. If any of you had any similar experiences with test results, please share.

My blood test came back negative after I first showed symptoms. Three months later, it came back positive. Igm indicates a newer infection, whereas igg indicates an infection over 30days minimum...

Swab tests arw very sensitive. It needs to be a sore and I believe where it is like an ulcer. It also has to be swabbed w in 48hrs of first appearance or there is not enough Vitus and test results wik be negative.

Did you ask the doctor to explain why both of you would have rashes and it not be a new infection possibly? When is your bf getting tested?

My boyfriend got tested right after me and his result came out negative. As for his rashes, the doctor ruled it out as skin allergy & prescribed some cream that actually helped. His rashes were gone within a week while mine took a bit longer.

I think you both need to go back in another month for testing to be certain. Asbi mentioned, new infections will not show on blood tests or not quite meet the value.
