So - the tests they do at the pre-op ( take blood, urine test, height and weight, blood pressure, etc) - will they do them again the day of the op?
No but they do blood pressure
Ah, ok. I hate having blood taken - they can never find a vein 😟
They will take blood and probably do blood pressure but not normally the rest.
What happens if they arent happy woth something when they are testing? What things could affect their decission?
Blood will be taken, they always do a second check in case you need a transfusion.
Only BP day of op. Blood test done after to check for iron levels etc
Thanks colin
I had to go back to the hospital 3days before my op to have bloods & blood pressure checked again, nothing else was checked, I think it's standard procedure .
Well, as Lucite says they do blood pressure, but that can vary from morning to evening. They will check your blood group once more just in case you need a transfusion (unlikely). Better safe than sorry. Close your eyes. I have blood/injury phobia but as long as I don't see the red stuff I am fine.
no, but your blood pressure will be monitored regularly, mine started out at every hour, but reduced as I recovered.
I also had ECG and pre-op swabs to detect MRSA bugs, failure (unlikely) would mean a course of antibiotics to clear the bugs before the operation could take place.
The nurse doing the blood testing was very quick as she does almost nothing else all day long, and had the red stuff flowing in a second or so. No pain at all.
Rules said that mine had to be re-type checked within 7 days of the operation, to make sure they have the right type ready in the unlikely event that you need a transfusion.

Thanks, Graham. I had ECG and MRSA swabs at pre-op.
Yes, I'm usually ok if I don't look! But I can get panicky at the thought of it.
