Anxiety and congestion?

Hello,

Sorry it's not the best of topics!

So I have struggled with anxiety for around 1 year now and I have learnt a lot so manage it / control and understand it a lot better over this time.

However one of my driver's is congestion. For about a year now I have had constant sinus pain, congestion, congestion headaches and post nasal drip that lasts all day. This leads to me needing to clear my throat and cough up a lot of mucus constantly. I have also had now 4 infections because of this. It really ruins my ability to concentrate, and the dizziness is due to the congestion more than anxiety.

I panic when I can feel the mucus build on my chest or stuck in my throat and get a lot of pressure behind my ears.

Sleep is a major issue because it's obstructive and I wake up exhausted.

Antibiotics clear the infection but make me quite depressed and drained, no idea why but the last course I had was brutal and it was a 6 week course and got another now which I dread of the same antibiotics but double the dose rolleyes

I have been seeing an ENT who has said it's not natural. We have ruled out allergies (testing done) and waiting to go back. I have tried literally every antihistamine and nasal spray over the course of the year, nothing helps remotely.

The ENT now thinks it's anxiety related although is testing next week for something called silent reflux apparently.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? How can anxiety lead to such high mucus production and congestion and how can I stop it?

I have followed a strict diet of no diary, caffiene, bread etc and it didn't really do alot either which is strange!

Thank you

I dont know where you are from but oddly this past year i have many colds and issues and so have many people i have spoken too. Could be viral or fungal, not bacterial or just bum luck with respiratory stuff lately. Traditional doctors are so interesting at times, its not always bacterial. Try xclear and steaming sinuses with eucalyptus. Quite off because your ent cant figure it out he goes ahead and  bascially blames you. Thats a new one. Reflux can cause sinus issues as well. Stress can lower the immunity system so you do catch more stuff. Way too many antibiotics which can cause issues all by themselves, Using so many sprays over the last year easily could have caused inflammation issues and rebound congestion issues..maybe see a different ENT, yours doesnt sound so intelligent. Look up fungal sinus issues from over antibiotic use and sprays. Sometimes these sinus things arent antibiotic resistant they arent bacterias.

Also look into histamine foods and such. You might need a completly different diet.

Hi Thomas, yes I can relate to this, not sure if it is anxiety related or what, but it is horrible, I have seen so many drs,and tried so many different things including antibiotics and nasal sprays, steam breathing and antihisimines.

Doctors just say its sinus related, and to plod on, I have been going through a bad patch now, its giving me a sore throat and keeps feeling if there is something in my throat, driving me mad, have had this a couple times before and it will eventually settle to a certain level.

Now as to self help, I think it is best to avoid if poss nasal sprays as they can make things worse, but saying that the spray I use is either steromol saline, or any saline spray, it will stop the the sinuses drying out and keep things clear, really think it helps. I also find massageing my sinus points really good, plus holding a hot water bottle on my face, which relaxes the facial muscles and in turn helps to flow properley.

I do wish you well, let us know if you find a miracle cure out there, or even a little one will do. Lol

Good luck
